On June 26, the regional government of Galicia, Spain (Xunta de Galicia) will present the Strategy for Excellence in Biotechnology in Galicia 2026–2030, a roadmap that will guide the biotechnology sector’s actions in the region. The event will count on the participation of various stakeholders in the ecosystem to share their experiences on how to promote the competitive excellence of Galicia’s biotechnology sector and its international visibility.
The new strategy will be integrated into the Galician Research and Innovation Plan 2025–2027, in which biotechnology is identified as one of its four fundamental pillars, and will be complemented by initiatives such as the creation of the first knowledge transfer office specialising in the biotechnology sector in the region, with the aim of facilitating the conversion into business of the different research carried out in this field.
This strategy builds on the success of the previous Consolidation Strategy 2021–2025, which in turn was a continuation of the initial Strategy to Promote Biotechnology 2016–2020 . It aims to establish the region as a leading international biotechnology hub through the efforts of the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN) and organizations such as BIOGA – Life Sciences Technological and Business Cluster.
Galicia is one of the regions covered by the Biotech4Food project through one of its partners, ANFACO-CYTMA, a prominent R&I agent and a key entity in the development of biotechnology in the region.
